Smoovee, the software that corrects video vibrations
Martigny, Switzerland, March 17, 2009 - In collaboration with IDIAP, a research institute affiliated with EPFL, the start-up company Cinetis is launching high-performance video stabilization software. Smoovee is designed for use by film professionals as well as the general public.
Cinetis is announcing the release of its high-performance automatic video stabilization software. Smoovee is the result of more than two years of collaboration with the IDIAP research institute and IdeArk, its antenna for developing new technologies in multimodal interactions and management of multimedia information. With its intuitive interface, this software is designed for a wide range of users. And because its stabilization process is particularly applicable to strong vibrations, Smoovee is ideal for use by filmmakers and athletes who use video to record action sequences.
Cinetis Directors Pierre Ihmle and Jean-Pierre Gehrig explain: “For more than a year we have been using video stabilization techniques with our clients’ digitized Super8 and 16 mm films. There is nothing more annoying than films that wobble. Cameras can partially correct for this with optical or digital stabilizers that suppress small vibrations. Professionals attach bulky equipment to their cameras such as gyroscopic stabilizers or inertial mounts. Smoovee corrects vibrations after the fact, once the film has been recorded and saved to a hard disk. The film is passed through the software interface, where Smoovee automatically calculates the optimum compensatory camera movements, giving the smoothest result possible. The process increases the visual quality of the film significantly. The Falquet brothers, well-known Swiss extreme skiers, use the software for their professional films. This tool provides a state- of-the-art solution for demanding amateurs as well as video professionals.
Cinetis SA designs, develops and markets image and sound processing technologies, particularly film digitization technology. The company is associated with Bolex International, a brand recognized around the world for its cinematographic equipment, based in Yverdon-les-Bains.
